I'm not sure I've ever felt inspired to take write a specific thing. Well, I suppose I have, but the inspiration came from the idea of something. The actual crafting of the message, now that's a different story all together, that is all about the building, the working, the sifting and sorting you describe. Inspiration for me comes from the feeling I get when I actually get it done, the sense of accomplishment, the knowing that what I meant to say was exactly what I did say. I write only for myself, but it provides me a sense of self, and I suppose that's all the inspiration I need. Thank you, as always for your lovely words.

I remember my first yoga teacher telling us that sometimes his best practices were when he was sick and dragged himself to his mat anyway, with no expectations for himself other than showing up and making it through. So maybe it's the same with writing -- if we just sit down at our desks, do our work, and let go of expectation and attachment to the outcome, we might just learn something about ourselves we didn't already know. I love what you say about inspiration rarely preceding us to our desks--so true, and such a helpful thing to realize. Great post.

I think this is probably the most important piece of advice for any aspiring writer! I can't tell you how many times I stop writing because I feel so uninspired, so stuck, so disconnected...yet it is the very process of writing that frees us, that connects us, that inspires us!
THANK YOU x

This was exactly what I needed to read tonight, thank you. I don't know how many times I've sat down and though to myself "I'm not inspired, this is useless" and then step away, when really I should sit down and write anyway.
Thank you for this.

Looking for inspiration almost always leads to heartache. Inspiration has to find us,but we must persist in spite of it, so that we are ready to accept it when the gift comes along.

Thank you for sharing that with us. It's comforting to hear that even a writer at your level struggles with the same things we all do.
